Electronic ID – electronic identity is the electronic equivalence of printed identity papers. Most conveniently it may be used over open networks (as Internet) to prove you are who you claim to be.

When you can identify yourself and sign agreements over Internet in a secure way, a large number of services are rendered possible that up to now require personal attendance.

Electronic ID will thus constitute a major part of electronic trade and all sorts of business over open networks. In addition, the development and accessibility of public services are made possible with Electronic IDs, to be used by both enterprises and personals.

Technically speaking, an Electronic ID is a data file stored in a computer, in the Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) of a cellular, or a Smartcard.
